# Marketo, Pardot, HubSpot and NetSuite Compared: We Have Used Them All

By Dan Seyer, Founder, Build Marketing · Published 2026-10-07 · Updated 2026-10-15

> This article is for founders, CMOs and marketing leaders choosing a marketing platform, or wondering whether the one they have is still the right one. It is the starting point for our series on the marketing platforms we have used.

## Which is better: Marketo, Pardot, HubSpot or NetSuite?

None of them is the best for everyone, and we have used and liked all four. Marketo fits large teams running complex programs with marketing operations staff. Pardot fits companies whose sales team lives in Salesforce. HubSpot fits small and mid-sized teams that want one easy system for marketing, sales and service. NetSuite fits companies that already run their business on it and want marketing tied to orders and revenue. Pick the one that matches your CRM, your team and how you grow, then make sure AI can read your website, because that matters whatever platform you choose.

## AI Summary

We have been users of Marketo, Pardot, HubSpot and NetSuite, and we like them all. Each one is excellent for a different kind of company. Marketo is the deepest tool for large, complex marketing operations. Pardot is the natural choice when Salesforce is your system of record. HubSpot gets small and mid-sized teams running fastest, on one shared customer record. NetSuite ties marketing to orders, billing and revenue for companies already running on it. Microsoft Dynamics is the one we have not used yet, and it has powerful features we look forward to working with. The right choice depends on your CRM, your team and how you grow. Whatever you choose, AI search engines and agents still have to read your website, which is what MachineReady checks.

## Why We Can Compare Them

Most platform comparisons are written by a vendor, or by someone who has only seen the demos. This one is different. We have run real marketing on Marketo, Pardot, HubSpot and NetSuite, inside real companies, with real targets.

This is not a takedown. We like all four. Each one solved a real problem for the team using it, and each one has limits you should know before you buy. The articles in this series go deeper on each platform and on the stories behind them. This page is the overview: what each one is best at, who it fits and how to choose.

## Marketo: The Standard for Complex Marketing Operations

Marketo, now Adobe Marketo Engage, set the standard for B2B marketing automation. It is built for teams that run many programs at once across many channels, products and regions.

- **What it does best:** deep lead scoring and nurture programs, reusable program templates, detailed segmentation and multi-touch attribution. If you can design it, Marketo can usually run it.
- **Who it fits:** mid-sized and large companies with a marketing operations function, many campaigns running at once and a sales team that depends on well-qualified leads.
- **What to watch for:** it rewards expertise. Without someone who knows it well, much of its power goes unused, and the cost is hard to justify for a small team.

Our article on why Marketo became the standard is coming soon in this series.

## Pardot: Marketing Inside Salesforce

Pardot, now Salesforce Marketing Cloud Account Engagement, is marketing automation built for Salesforce. If your sales team already lives in Salesforce, Pardot keeps marketing and sales on the same records.

- **What it does best:** a close fit with the Salesforce CRM, so salespeople see marketing activity where they already work, and marketing can report on pipeline without a sync between two systems. Engagement programs, scoring and grading are solid and straightforward.
- **Who it fits:** B2B companies of almost any size that have committed to Salesforce and want one vendor and one data model.
- **What to watch for:** it is most natural when you are fully on Salesforce, and getting the most from it means knowing both Pardot and Salesforce administration.

## HubSpot: The Fastest Time to Value

HubSpot started with inbound marketing and a free CRM, and grew into a platform for marketing, sales and service on one shared customer record.

- **What it does best:** ease of use, speed and one record everyone shares. A small team can launch pages, emails, workflows and reports in days without a specialist. In 2026 it also brings AI agents that work from your own CRM data.
- **Who it fits:** small and mid-sized businesses, and growing teams that want one system people will actually use.
- **What to watch for:** cost grows with your contacts and seats, and very large or complex operations can outgrow it.

## NetSuite: Marketing Tied to the Business

NetSuite is Oracle's cloud ERP, and its CRM and marketing tools share the same database as orders, inventory, billing and finance. That is something none of the others can match on their own.

- **What it does best:** a single source of truth from lead to cash. You can see which campaign produced a customer and how much revenue and margin that customer brought in, without exporting data between systems. It can also be extended to fit how your business really works.
- **Who it fits:** companies that already run their business on NetSuite and want marketing connected to operations and finance.
- **What to watch for:** out of the box it is lighter on marketer-friendly tools, such as page and funnel builders, so it pays to build it out with the right extensions and partners.

## Microsoft Dynamics: The One We Have Not Used Yet

To be fair to readers, there is one major platform we have not used: Microsoft Dynamics 365, whose marketing tools are now called Customer Insights. We will not pretend to review something we have not run ourselves. What we can say is that it has some powerful features, especially for companies that already work in Microsoft 365 and Azure, and we look forward to a future opportunity to use it. When we do, we will add it to this series.

## Side by Side

Here is how the four platforms we have used compare at a glance. It is a summary, not a scorecard: each one wins in the situation it was built for.

| At a glance | Marketo | Pardot | HubSpot | NetSuite |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Best for | Large teams running complex, multi-channel programs | Companies whose sales team lives in Salesforce | Small and mid-sized teams that want one easy system | Companies already running their business on NetSuite |
| Team it needs | A marketing operations specialist or two | A Salesforce admin plus a marketer who knows Pardot | Marketers can run it themselves | A NetSuite admin or partner who can extend it |
| CRM fit | Connects to Salesforce, Dynamics and others | Built into Salesforce | Its own CRM, shared by marketing, sales and service | Same database as ERP, orders and billing |
| Learning curve | Steep, with deep rewards | Moderate if you know Salesforce | Gentle | Steep for anything beyond the basics |
| Reporting strength | Program and multi-touch attribution | Pipeline inside Salesforce | Marketing to deal, all in one place | Campaign spend to revenue and margin |
| Where it is weaker | Cost and complexity for small teams | Less natural outside Salesforce | Cost grows with contacts and seats | Marketer-friendly tools like page builders |

## How to Choose

Start with your business, not with the feature list. A few honest questions usually settle it:

- **Where does your sales team live?** If Salesforce is your system of record and will stay that way, start with Pardot. If you do not have a CRM yet, HubSpot gives you one with marketing built in.
- **Does finance need to see what marketing produced?** If campaigns need to connect to orders, billing and margin, and you already run on NetSuite, build out NetSuite before adding another system.
- **How complex are your programs?** If you run many programs across products, regions and brands, with a team to manage them, Marketo is built for that.
- **Who will run it day to day?** If it is a few marketers without an operations specialist, choose the platform they can run themselves. The best platform is the one your team actually uses.
- **What will it cost in two years?** Check how each platform charges as your contacts, seats and needs grow, not just the first-year price.

## What Comes Next: Building Your Own

There is a new option on the table. AI coding tools and AI agents now make it realistic for some companies to build parts of their own marketing platform, tailored to exactly how they work. It is not the right move for everyone yet, and the platforms above still do a great deal that would be hard to rebuild. Our article on whether AI is ready to build your own marketing platform is coming soon in this series.

## Whatever You Choose, Can AI Read Your Website?

Every platform here helps you reach buyers. But buyers increasingly start with AI assistants and AI search, and those decide what to say about you by reading your website. Many sites are hard for machines to read, whichever platform sits behind them: key facts are hidden in images or scripts, pages lack structured data and there is no clear summary of what the company does.

[MachineReady](https://www.buildmarketing.ai/machineready/) scans your site the way AI reads it and shows you what to fix. Run it first, then pick the platform that fits your team.
